Situated halfway between Lyon and Roanne (45 kms), Tarare has always been a place of thoroughfare. The famous RN7 national road runs through the town which lies in the valley of three rivers : the Taret, the Turdine and the Soanan. Three passes open the horizon : the Croix Cazard pass (1004m), sided by the Matagrin Tower, the pass of the Sauvages (723m) and the Pin Bouchain pass (760m). From the summit of these passes one can view the Alps including the Mont-Blanc (highest mountain in Europe, 4807m) on a clear day. | |||
